Hi All,
We are switching local PRI providers in a few. But, the circuits will overlap a few weeks. Our current PRI T1 plugs into a CSU unit, and then the 48x jack.

However, our current LD T1 plugs directly into a smart jack.

Both T1's use the same card, NTAK09BA, which I believe does not have CSU/DSU capability built in. We're running Succession 3.0 on an 11C.

My question then is, do I need a CSU for the new T1? At one point when talking to a VZ tech and having problems with the local PRI T1, they told me to bypass the CSU and go direct.

Just made me wonder, does a PRI need to have a CSU/DSU for some reason, though we're not splitting any channels between voice and data?

I saw this FAQ, but still wondering about the necessity of the CSU unit.

Thanks all,
MB

A CSU is not necessarily needed.......That being said I would recommend using a CSU because it could save alot of headaches with the circuit. Also some carries demand a CSU before they'll come out and troubleshoot the circuit if it goes down. One other thing to look at is to make sure that you are using the correct D-Channel card for the new circuit.

i am on a direct fiber feed (os3) so i do not have csu's.. they are a good test point but only that. if your using the same card, and the same cables.. then you need to turn the ckt over.. the rj45 or the db-15 has to be reversed.. the csu turns the tran/rec over.. removing it would mean you'll need to provide that swap.. when i do a carrier change, if i have to hot swap it, i have dn-15's made up straight thru, and reversed before i call the new vendor to test..
