Currently I have a remote office connected via a point to point T1. 384k for data and the rest are voice channels.

We are talking about building a new facility in our back yard and I am wondering if I can simply bury a wire to the new building and provide service over it. It would be about a 1000 feet or less. Can this be done? What are the distance requirements or restrictions?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

very few manuals on building a local t. i would use a cat 5 and use that for a t1.. they do make direct bury cat five with a 30 year sheath.. on pstn pri we use a repeator ever 5000 ft and no load coils as used on voice (analog) pairs.. i would add a csu at each end, giving me a loop back point.. i've used copper for t's point to point without a problem. price large gauge cable (19) if you can find it, a direct bury is not something you want problems with.. i've got a 50 ft patch cable in service now, without problems

might look into an ip remote, i've put a couple of those in and it's a pretty good box.. the 11 mini i installed was not something i would recogmend.. but that was a very early rls mini

1000 cable feet shouldn't be a problem. A T-1 span repeater would be needed at about 3000 ft.

And if your data routers have T-1 interfaces you may be able to run them on their own pairs for a full T-1 worth of data bandwith. There is also gear available that will extend ethernet across copper cable pairs. I forget who makes it.

Don't forget to install lightning and power surge protection equipment. And to follow proper grounding procedures.

Thanks for the info. Regarding lightning and power protection, I use Oneac stuff and it seems to work fine.

Thanks,

Jim
