Just read an Avaya product support notice ( Seriously affects adding any 1600 Series phones on any pre-Release 9.0 systems.

Basically 1600 series phones with 1.33/1.34 firmware don't react well to be downgraded to anything lower.

New phones from the factory come with 1.33. IP Office 9.0 shipped with 1.33 from GA so okay.

For other releases, the latest service packs for 8.1 and 8.0 have firmware 1.33 so best to upgrade. For anything earlier you'll need to manually replace the 1600 series bin files to a 1.33 set before adding/replacing any phones.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Jep. it will give them all the same MAC address :)
Funny isn't it?
Lucky me that we hardly sell them.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

WTF

This is getting the basics wrong.
The mac and serial should be BURNED into the phone.

This is asking for problems with firmware / Gray market / fake products.

Take it Avaya have not learned from the last MAC address problems with the IP500

Not good at all.
