is it possible to intall a operating system on another hard drive,i have 2 hard drives c: and d:,c: has win 98 installed on it.I was wondering if i can install winMe on the other hard disk and make it bootable with a boot manager.or would the two Operating systems cancel each other out on boot up.

According to Microsoft KB article Q289283 you cannot.
Probably they mean : not supported.
You will need a boot manager. With the oldest system
(Win98) already installed, it should be possible to set
up a multiboot system with the newer WinME on D: .

Okay,But if the install of WinMe insists on using c: as its drive, how can i trick the installer to install on d: drive,i've tried going thru the manual setup,But it does not give any option as to which drive you can use.

Any Help Would Be Useful.

You need a full-version (not upgrade) on ME for it to work.

One simple(ish) way would be to have two removable drives and one caddy. Install Win on one, take it out, install ME on the other. Simply insert the required O/S before boot-up.
Well, it's an alternetive..... :p My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

Try this - it works on my machine.

Get into the bios setup at switch on, and turn off drive C. If you cannot turn it off then unplug the drive.

The machine then sees drive D as drive C.

Thanks for the info, but i have gave up on the dual op systems for awhile, but i will try it again soon!!!!
