I receive a list of files which was created in Word 97. However, since I upgraded to Word 2000, all the formatting in the previously created word 97 documents were all over the place. When I uninstall word 2000 and reinstall word 97, the documents are back to normal.

I tried saving using another filename in word 2000 format without altering anything, opening the renamed file in word 97 and it still looks ok.

Are there any options in word 2000 that I need to change in order to view word 97 documents?

Please help!!

If you haven't already tried to do so, go into Tools - Options and go to the Compatibility Tab. You can set options there for Office 97 and Office 2000. I haven't run into this problem, so I'm not sure what options you need to select/deselect, if any.

Trid all the options but still can't work. Any converter from 97 to 2000?

Excerpt taken from

The Best Conversion Method to Word 2000 from Word 97

If you know that a document is moving to Word 2000, where it will stay, you’re in luck. In this case, your best bet is to treat it as a conversion: create a new Word 2000 document, then select Insert > File, navigate to the document to be “converted,” select it and click Insert.

While this method gives you a good Word 2000 document and ensures that when you save the file, it will inherit Word 2000 settings, you will lose some document and section formatting properties. However, if you simply File > Open a
Word 97 document in Word 2000, then Save or Save As, the document remains set to Word 97 Compatibility Options, and must be manually modified to reflect the upgraded application. (We’ll be talking about compatibility options in detail a bit later.)

Additionally, inserting the Word 97 document into this empty Word 2000 file automatically provides the additional structure and elements defined for your new Word 2000 environment.

I hope that helps. ---------------------------------------
