In prior versions of windows when Windows Explorer was opened it defaulted to C: drive. In XP Pro when I open WE it defaults to the my documents folder. I want it to open to My Computer/Local Disk C but can't seem to find a way to make it do it. No matter what I try it opens to My Documents.

Also, I have XP set to save each folders view settings. Sometimes it does, most times it doesn't. When I restart the machine all the view settings revert back to Tiles.

Any thoughts?

In reply to your second question - Open My computer - Click On Tools - Folder Options. Click on the View tab and then scroll down to the option Remember Each Folders View Settings and untick the Box.

With your first problem im not sure how you are opening explorer. Windows Key and E opens explorer to my computer. Or click Start - Run - Type explorer.exe c:

I was hoping to find a registry key that would do this perminantly but cannot find one. I think the best you are going to be able to do is create a shortcut on the desktop and use the following as the file name explorer.exe c:\ . You can then place that short cut where ever you want.

Thanks Folks! I solved the problem of Explorer opening to the My Documents folder. I did a bit of experiementing from links provided in your replys and came up with this solution. If you change the target in the short cut to %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, c:\ Windows explorer will open in c:\ with the folder listing in the left pane as in older versions of Windows. If you omit the /e, switch you won't get the folders pane on the left.

With the not saving folder settings problem. One solution was to delete these two keys

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags

These two keys don't exist on my system, there is a \Shell\BagMRU and a \Shell\Bags but no \ShellNoRoam

Another solution was to change the views setting from 400 to xxxx via Tweakui. I downloaded the most recent version, changed the settings to 1000. Will just have to wait and see what happens.

Does anyone know if setting the views to more than 1000 will effect the system in any way?

"If you change the target in the short cut to %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, c:\ Windows explorer will open in c:\ with the folder listing in the left pane as in older versions of Windows."

That is the fix that worked for you.

The Bag limits, and the related TweakUI do not have an effect on Explorer and where and how it opens as a default.

As to your last question, any value of 2048 is ignored, and the default used instead.
