Has anyone come across an OSS cobol compiler that isn't going to require a major re-write?

I'm going to be taking some noobs through a bit of Cobol training and don't want to first have to explain TSO and JCL basics to them before they can write a simple "hello world" program.
We were hoping to save a bit of tin by running the training centre PC's on Ubuntu, but all uni edition pc compilers seem to require windoze.

Need just a compiler or a full IDE?

Full IDE would be great, but I'd settle for just the compiler at the moment

Open Cobol ( seems to be rather current and Ok.
It's rightly available for Linuxes AFAIK, and not too hard to implement.
