Hello,

I have a Windows 2000 Server SP3 dedicated file server.
Clients are opening files such as word or excel, but the file is still open according the server. Becuase of this the user receives the error like "file already in use a copy will be made but it will be read only".

If the user exits the document the correct way by FILE > CLOSE, then exits the application, the open file on the server is closed correctly. But if they close the application directly without closing the document, the opebn file hangs on the server.

I have never had this problem before, on NT4, nor do I have this problem on my other Win2000 Server servers.

Any light on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

hi,

may this be a client problem ?

I have seen something similar on XP home, in local drive,
using Office 2K .

bye
