Has anyone a solution to only one (PLC5/40e)IP address cannot be pinged from only one PC on the Network, Tracert, or many other methods tried. Firewall disabled, Cable is good-NIC is good-Switch is good. able to browse the internet and network except for one ip address on the network. This is on one pc only all others can ping and connect to it. Ping works for the address preceeding and folowing.

My Thanks in advance

Bob

I have checked the HOSTS file, Run Adaware Windows Defender and Norton CE. I appreciate the suggestion Freestone but all simple fixes have been tried (I think).

These fellow "Pingers" all had similar sounding problems, maybe you can get a few clues from their stories?

WinXP Connectivity Issues
faq779-4625

After reading the other posts (trying the things I have not tried) and with Dell support I have gained nothing . The NIC Software has been removed and the most current version installed, Reset TCP/IP stack several times, Ping on the PC's IP from the Problem PC successful. Dell exhausted all diagnostics they knew and all I could think of. No firewall exists on the PC except Windows F/W and it is off. no changes to the router have been made, system restore to a previous date and Windows Repair was no help. I have searched the registry for the IP & MAC address in question and found it only in the recent searches and RS-Linx config (as should be). I appear to have only on solution remaining - Format and reinstall all software on the PC then Restore the Data.

Sounds like a Subnet Mask misconfiguration to me. Could be on the computer or the device you're trying to ping, but since you can ping other devices, it's probably on the printer(?).

Subnet mask is correct or the other IP addresses would have the same issue

FYI: 100 PC's have no issue. 1 PC cannot connect to 1 "Allan Bradley Programmable Logic Controller" (PLC5/40e) out of several in the system.

I understand that if you have no experience with manufacturing Control Processes that it is difficult to under the complexity of the situation. The IP address is not a pc but an industrial device that has the functionalty of a PC and more but has no keyboard or monitor attached. To complicate things I can not change the address in question due to SQL Server and Hardware considerations.

Are you saying that you have 100 computers and they can all ping this PLC device, but you have one computer that can not ping the same PLC device on the same network?

What the device is is irrelevant as long as it will respond to a ping...be it a PLC or a nuclear reactor..doesn't matter.

Have you tried moving the PC's connection to a different port on the switch? Unlikely, but ...

Is this PC on the same network segment as the PLC device?

To Freestone:
As the PC is a Notebook it has been connected to a switch different with no change.

To Lander215:
Yes

TO chipk:
The PLC is 35 feet away connected to the same bank of Ethernet switches

Something to Ponder, My personal notebook which is not in the same Domain or Workgroup can address the PLC from my home via a VPN Connection.

To Freestone:
As the PC is a Notebook it has been connected to a different switch with other PC's with no change. Sorry for the loss of Text in that line.

BobBrooks - can you do an ipconfig /all on the malfunctioning machine and a known good machine and post the results?

Well Bob, sounds like you're smart enough to figure this out on your own. Good luck.

From the problem PC, can you ping other IP's in the subnet? Can other PC's ping the problem PC's interface?

If you want our help, then you should do things when we ask. chipk asked you to post your IPCONFIG results, but you only responded with "they match". Well, that's fine, but post them so we can confirm they match.

To Chipk
This PC was able to connect to the PLC on Friday of last week and not on Monday. We are closed over the weekend and the PC was locked in an office. Not intending to be rude or offend but, this is not a simple repair. I usually exhaust all simple and all other means before asking for help. I have had the support staff of Dell and Rockwell Software trying to cure this issue and most of the suggestions given have been tried as I have posted previously. I appreciate you taking your valuable time trying to help. I feel at this point I will Wipe the Hard Drive clean with a good format, reinstall Windows and all the required software. The user should be able to work normally from that point on.

To All: Thanks for trying

Good luck in all that you do there Bob.
