Only on 2000 servers - 'unable to initialize remote agent'

I've seen a similar post, yet I did not read a resolution.
Has there been a successful fix for this problem? The agents
on the backup and target servers are running yet the log file indicates that they fail to initialize.

Thanks for the help!
