When I try to use the "alt|B" shortcut combination in Word othing happens. It used to work. I reinstalled Office but that didn't fix it. Before I do the uninstall/reinstall has anyone got a suggestion?
If I do reinstall do I need to update with SR1 and SR2 again?
Thanks, all

You should be able to take care of this without reinstalling.

You could try 3 things:

1. Tools/Customize/Toolbars Tab - select the formatting toolbar (turns blue/not the checkmark), and click the reset button.

2. In the same screen, at the bottom of the window is a "Keyboard" button. Find Format on the left side, Bold on the right. Look at the keyboard shortcuts. You can select a current one and delete it. Or in your case, do the Ctrl B to assign it back to that function.

3. Or another button "Reset All". This will reset every keyboard shortcut you have assigned. I would use this as a *LAST RESORT* if you have assigned ANY keyboard shortcuts.

Hope this helps.

The more I use the computer the more I use keyboard short custs vs. the mouse. When you open the paragraph window the cursor is, by default in the alignment drop down. To move the cursor to the "spacing|before" drop down I hit "alt|b". It used to work and in fact "alt|e" to go to the "after" drop down or any other "alt|key combination" works just fine. I was looking for a post that would save me from doing an uninstall/reinstall of office.
By the way, the issue of protecting the signature/picture in a document is doable. See the thread for the solution.

cspgsl is not referring to a "true" shortcut combination, such as Ctrl+B for bolding text. He is referring to opening the Paragraph window (Format/Paragraph...) then using the Alt+B to go to the "Before" option under Spacing. You may need to reinstall Word/Office to get this to work again.

One thing to check is to find out if Alt+B got assigned to some permanent event that is causing Word to get "confused." To do this, start to record a Macro (Tools/Macro/Record New Macro..); then in the Record Macro window, select Keyboard. Type Alt+B in the Press New Shortcut Key field and see if it shows it assigned.
