only 5 audio files fit on a cd

I have xp-pro installed on my computer and have copied music cd's before with no problem. The xp media player list the files to be copied on the left ( less than 80 min total) and the copied files and room available on the cd on the right side of the screen. I select the files and begin to copy. All are converted but when the copy process starts, it only copies 4 or 5 files and then closes out the cd. I am using cd-r disk for the audio files and at times it copies the entire disk, but all of a sudden it starts this 4 or 5 file thing and I waste a bunch of cd's. I have changed the quality under Tools to the minimum and to the max with no change.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
