One out of 2 'working' network devices unreachable

I have a PC running Windows XP Professional SP2 with 2 network devices installed:

- LAN: Realtek 8139 10/100 | IP: 192.168.20.141
- WLAN: Hawking Wireless-G HABTP54G | IP: 192.168.20.142

When I first ran VNC Server, I was unable to connect to both the devices. I was not able to ping either of them, however I was able to connect to the internet using both devices.
Windows Firewall is turned off, so I guessed there should be another issue. So I tried WinsockXPfix.exe, in order to resolve posible winsock issues. Since the reboot after the fix I am able to connect to 192.168.20.141 via VNC, however I am still unable to ping that device.
The WLAN device is still unreachable thru both pinging an VNC, although VNC Server was clearly indicating the two IP-adresses as accepted devices.

As I see it, I still have 2 issues:

- I am unable to ping both devices
- I am still unable to connect to VNC over the WLAN device

I have no firewall installed.
I use Avast! Virusscan Home 4.7.

Even though you turned off the firewall, goto the advanced Tab and remove the ticks from the Local Network and wireless device. [You will need to reboot]. Turn off any Avast Firewall

Thanks, I'll check both options.
I just found different reviews on Avast 4.7, and some state the package does contain a Firewall, where others imply it doesn't...

Well, I disabled everything as you advised, but I'm still having the same issues.

The Ethernet card is reachable.
The Wireless card is not.

Any new suggestions?
