I have a DVD drive in my computer. Do I need anything else to be able to watch DVD films through the computer?

if it is a newer computer all you need is the driver and the player that comes with it if it older you may need a hardware decoder card and even if it newer it does run better with hardware decoding. So long and thanks for all the fish.

The computer is an AMD K6-2 500. The DVD drive was added as a replacement for my CD drive which went faulty.

the super 7 boards can run a dvd without a hardware decoderand it sound like you have a super 7 board. So long and thanks for all the fish.

a 500Mhtz will run DVDs on a software decoder, but you have to be sure you run only the player, and not try to do anything else at the same time, or you will increase jumpiness and such. I do recomend a hardware decoder for best performance (especially for slower computers) , they only come for about around 40$, but they play extremely smooth, even on resolutions upto 1600x1200.

RealMagic Hollywood Plus is a good one to find.

but try out some software decoders first, one of the most popular one, and best ones I've found was PowerDVD 3.0 Karl
