I have a client with Outlook who sends out messages and quite often the recepient receives the message several times, sometimes as many as 60 times !. There is only one copy in the sent items box.

So far I have tried to identify a pattern - common isp, same recipent, with or without attachments, single or multiple recipients ..etc, but there doesn't seem to be any obvious pattern emerging.

Anyone seen this behaviour before, or have an idea where to look?

Cheers,
Brodie

I can now reproduce this on my own pc running Outlook. It seems it only occurs when sending attachments.

What happens is this:

send an attachment
details pane shows "task 1 of 1" with a progress bar
at 100% there is a delay
then the details pane shows "task 2 of 2" and the cycle repeats.

It seems that when the message has completed sending, there is no signal back to confirm it has completed, and move the message to the "sent items" folder. So the process starts all over again and in the meantime the recipient has received the message several times.

It is Outlook 2002 SP3.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Brodie

Oh! and one other thing...

It does not happen every time. It seems to occur only when the mail server is busy, i.e. where you would normally get a message "your smtp server has timed out....etc"
