Been running around in circles on this one, apologies for the verbosity:
NT 4.0 SP6a
Exchange 5.5 SP4
Outlook 2000
We have one mailbox that has developed a problem, where if an unread messages is opened, marked as read or moved, it lags for about 18 seconds (exactly the same every time, by stopwatch). Messages that have already been read, open immediately. This only applies to messages in the actual Inbox. Messages moved to folders (inside or outside the inbox) are fine.
Background - This mailbox receives/contains a high volume of messages and is shares between several users. Maybe 5000 1k messages at any given time. It had worked very well for a couple years.
I had kind of fixed this at one point by moving all the messages out, deleting and recreating the mailbox, and moving the messages back. Everything worked fine for about a week, then back to the same thing. I thinned out the messages and it sped back up for a day, but even with only a few messages now, the problem persists.
So, to recap:
Lag is when the read status is changed
Lag is exactly the same every time (18 sec)
Only the inbox for the one mailbox is affected
Recreating the mailbox was not a long-term fix
Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
