I am using a HP530CMT workstation (XP) it comes with a onboard Intel 82856G chip video. I installed a GeForce 5500 AGP and it automatically disables the onboard and it doesn't show up in Device Manager.
Manually re-installed the onboard but it won't start with a Code 10.
I am trying to dual monitor the workstation.
The BIOS won't let me assign a IRQ to the Intel video.

Any suggestions or ideas?

TIA

I know it's true on IBM Intellistations, and it may be true on HPs, but the BIOS allows video from either the integrated OR AGP/PCI slot but not both at the same time.

Best solution is to pick up a dual head card.

Prydonian has it. Those HP systems are set to auto-detect whether an AGP card is installed and then automatically disable the onboard video. IIRC, the onboard video uses the AGP bus (even though it is integrated into the chipset), and you can't have more than one device on the AGP bus at a time.

That I couldn't say. But you should be able to find a nice, dual-head AGP card for $50 or less. Back in the days of the GeForce MX line they were all dual-head, and those ought to be dirt cheap. I just did a quick search online and you can also buy cards based on the ATI Radeon 7000 chipset for around $30 USD. If you don't need performance, just dual outputs, the world is your oyster since 75% or better of the cards released in the past 2 years are dual head.

KMC is right on. Not to mention the fact that the AGP bus is being phased out on most new machines in favor of PCI-x with the result that AGP cards in stock will be getting cheaper and cheaper. Just like you can probably find ISA bus sound cards on E-bay for about 10 for a $1.00...

DOH!!! I have never kept up with the hardware scene. Whenever I'm home (I travel all the time) I go to CompUSA and walk around in amazement.
"You can do that with computers now?" "They made something so you can do that now?" "These are that small now?"

Then I walk out and go back to my $199 eMachine and check my email via dial up : )

I'll have the front office throw in a few more dual heads on the next order. I'm such a bonehead. We ordered some, but we have a handful of GeForce 5500's so I figured, why the dual heads, we've got onboard.

Lesson learned big time!!!

Thanks a bunch!
