hi, i have a hotpoint onboard raid, I would like to use the ide3 and ide4 as extra channel and not RAID, but how do I get my cd-rom drive to be recognised when i attached it to ide3? when the system boots up, it doesn't detect the cd-rom drive

This is a function of the controller, and there is likely a bios setting you can change. In some cases it's simply setting the HDD type for that controller port to AUTO (and the LBA and PIO settings as available to AUTO as well).

Also, check the jumper on the CD-Rom drive. Many prefer having the Cable Select jumper on.

Finally, check that cable - make sure you've got it connected correctly and snugly on both ends. Red stripes = Pin 1. Shaith
