Will it be okay for me to use old tapes as scratch tapes? I have tapes in my library that have not been accessed (read/written) for 3-4 month.

Also, how do I find a retention rate of a storage pool(s)?

Thanks!

Have you done reclaimation and expiration?

If the tapes say that they are empty, yes.

Yes, I have done a space reclaimation, I am not sure about expiration.

How can I check the expiration on a tape?

Check your activity logs, you should be running expiration every 24hours with an admin schedule.

You can also just run expiration from command line. The command is exactly as stated; expiration.

I guess it will not hurt to run 'expiration' daily. Also, TSM is complaining about some tapes not in the library for Space reclamation...what will happen to the space reclamation process...will it just halt after 120 mins?
