I have an old PPC 8500,im trying to resurrect, not to use ,but to extract data from 3 old SCSI drives I have attached to it.

-I installed a 2 port USB-PCI card-eventually got new extensions installed, so it see sit,but now the from 3 old SCSI drives I have attached to it have disappeared?

I assume conflict of resources, IRQs how do you adjust this on Mac OS 9,on a old PPC 8500/120.

I know how to reassign on a PC ,but not a MAC?

I should add ,the internal drive seems to come and go, (Bad disc error #10)sometimes it works, other times you must boot from external SCSI drives

My goal is just to to extract data from 3 old SCSI drives

SCSI chain was working and terminated properly.

Hi, Jazzbo,

I'm afraid I can't help with your query but I'm sure there'll be many others who can.

However, you might be able to answer a query of mine. I'm trying to renovate an 8600 which I've been told has the same motherboard as the 8500. Does your machine have anything in the 'System ROM' SIMM socket? It's next to the B4 RAM DIMM socket.

My 8600 (I haven't powered it up yet) has an empty SIMM socket so I tried to get a System ROM SIMM from some other folks who had 8600 or 8500 motherboards that had been taken out of service but, surprise surprise, their SIMM sockets were empty too!

Folks claim that the machines (including the one I have) were working before they were taken out of service and that they haven't removed the SIMMs. What's going on here?

I was going to start my own thread but saw yours, I hope you don't mind my coming aboard.

Best regards,

Pete W.

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs - you haven't seen the latest Change Note!

Many macs have a spare socket in case errors are found in the system ROMS, very few were ever needed, but Apple was worried they might be needed

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
