I picked up an old Dell Optiplex GX300 to hold me over until I build a new PC. Niether PC has a burner. I was going to but the old drive into the my brand-used Dell.
Is there a better/easier cheap way?
Also, if I were to go this route, can I boot up my old OS on that drive?

its cheap and easy to just make your old drive a slave and have the other HD hold whatever OS you want.

So if I make it a slave drive, will it show up in My Computer as another drive like E: or something?

As d:. And that may create some little problem as it reorders things. For example, when you need the CD to reload something, it will try to find it on D: when in fact it has become E:. Or one drive letter higher(maybe more) than it was before the older drive was added.
