OL2K - Internet e-mail dead!

Has anyone heard of a problem where Outlook 2000 opens
with an error "Internet e-mail service is not installed
properly. Please re-install Outlook and specify
the 'Corporate or Workgroup E-mail Service'." ???
If you go to the Mail applet in Control Panel and select
the properties of the "Internet mail" service you get
another message "Microsoft Outlook - The Action could not
be completed. The action could not be completed."
Yes, it says the same sentence twice in one error dialog.

I tried doing basic maintenance (ScanDisk, temp files,
defrag) and "Detect and Repair" and a reinstall over
existing install all with no luck.

I've been through the KB and found very little.

Any suggestions?

instead of re installing Outlook, re install Outlook express. Basically, Outlook express is needed for Outlook to function.

Did you intened for your Oulook install to be for the Corporate Workgroup or for Internet Mail Only?

The reason you are getting the error with the Internet Mail component is that it was not setup correctly the first time around. You can try to remove the component and then add it back on and complete the information.

I am not certain if it is one or two separate issues you are having but I would start by first removing the exisitng Internet Mail component. joegz
