Hello everyone

This is what i have.

I already have 8i on Sun 5.8. It was installed long time back using 'oracle' id in 'dba' group and looks like this 'oracle' id is also available in 'oinstall' group.

Now i need to install 9i on the same box. what is the best possible scenario i can come up with ?..

i created a new user 'oracle9i',now do i put him in both 'dba' and 'oinstall' group ? or create a new dba group called 'dba9i' group and put him there? then what about 'oinstall' group ? Do i need to put him there
as well.

Thanks in advance

thanks sem for your reply.

user 'oracle' account is created for ORacle 8i home.
Now for oracle 9i installation, i created a new home directory and a new oracle user id 'oracle9i' just seperate things out on the same box, since i already have oracle 8i on the same box.

Hope i made things clear.

Ram

ORACLE_HOME and oracle's home are different things. It's not recommended to mix them up. You may install 9i under the same account as 8i, though you should choose another directory for a new home.
