I've been using Vista's Sync Center to use offline files for about 2 weeks now.
I connecting locally onto the local network, or remotely via a VPN connection from home to the office.
A couple of days ago, when I was working remotely, I've noticed that the sync center started producing errors within the Sync Center control panel :
"An assertion failure has occurred."

I'm not sure if my offline files are still working fine, but I don't like getting errors, so I'd like to solve them in a structural way

What do these messages mean, and even more important : what can I do to solve this ?

Have you looked in the Event Viewer, under "Applications and Services Logs/ Microsoft/ Offline Files for any possible clues?

The error you are experiencing seems to be a general error message, and how it relates to Offline Files is not too clear to me.

The only other thing that comes to mind is the possible use of System Restore, or setting up the Synchronization again.

As a possible experiment, does disabling UAC (temporarily) remove the error message.

I reinstalled Vista, set up offline files again... but after a couple of days, I received the "assertion failures" again.
UAC is not enabled, nothing special in the event log...

Conclusion : : Vista offline files buggy, revert back to XP ?

ERROR_ASSERTION_FAILURE 668, An assertion failure has occurred.

That's all I can see in reference to your error, I just wonder if it is more than Synchronization and Offline Files at play here?

Do you think there may be something wrong with your machine or hardware setup?

What machine are the files originally stored on? Is there a problem there?

the files are stored on a fileserver, no problems on the server whatsoever

I've had this issue before, then reinstalled Vista, and after a while I started having the issue again
