Just received a new PC with Office XP small business pre-installed. I need to install Powerpoint, but I only have version 2000 - what are the chances of messing up the pre-installed Office XP if I install Powerpoint 2000???

Whenever installin 2 different versions it is best to install the oldest version first then the newest. And you want to make sure that they are installed to different directories.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Wray

You may have multiple versions on a machine, I need to do so to let me support clients who have older versions. The trick is to do the 'custom' installation and override the default folder - for example, put PowerPoint 97 into \PPT97 etc. Note that it may mess up the file associations - when you click on a .PPT file it will probably open (or try to open) using the most recently installed version. You can fix that by right-clicking a .PPT and select OPEN WITH and then browse to the version you want - click the "Always open with" box to lock it to that release.
