I am running w2k active directory server and have 20 - 2000 pro clients. All software is installed locally to the clients. When I try to open and work in word and powerpoint my machine crashes and stalls. I dont have any viruses, my machines are running 400mhz, 96MB RAM, 5GB hard drives, all server activities are running fast. So I believe it has to be a local machine issue. Ive tried to upgrade the Service Packs for office 2000 but that also crashes on me.

Any comments or suggestions would be great.

Thank you all in advance.....

So all the software is running on the workstations?
Did you check for HD errors?
Could you try changing the RAm for new/other chips?

Wipe and reinstall office, do a chkdsk, defrag etc. If its a server then to be fair - what do you expect?!

Stevehewitt - I have already wipped the machines clean and did a chkdsk and defrag, it did not fix the problem. Its (office 2000) not on the server its on the local machines (clients w2k).

koquito - Yes, I will try to put newer memory chips in. I already switched the chips with some old ones but still having the problem. (maybe a different kind of memory chip will work better?)

Thank you for your responses. I really appriciate them, If you have any other suggestions that would be great and helpful.

Thanks

Do you get any error message when it crashes?
Is it only happening with that workstation or is it a general situation with all 20-2000 clients?
Have you installed Office SP1 and SP2?
What else is running when you start Office?

No error message when it crashes. Just freezes up.

About half of the machines (10) of them.

The updates crash on me, thats what I thought it was at first. I actually went thru on one machine but didnt help that matter.

It is the only thing running. I took everything out of startup and removed all other programs.

These machines were refurbished(different kinds of memory chips), I am trying to get a good piece of memory to make sure thats not the problem. (however the other 10 work fine with mixed memory?

I was also thinking of upgrading the machines to office xp, but that may make things better or worste. Ill test that next if the memory doesnt work. Ill keep it posted.

Thank you for your help, any other comments are needed and appreciated.
