Hello Everyone.

I was over at a friends house last night. He has recently installed Win2k Pro. He has two users, himself and his wife. His wife is setup as an administrator and installed all of their software. The problem is that although he can see all of the software she installed on his desktop, none of the MS Office 2000 shortcuts will start the programs. All the other software starts just fine (photoshop, dreamweaver, etc.) You get an error message that says the programs aren't installed. I can navigate through the program files folder and I can see all of the program icons but when you try to click on any of these you get the same error message about the software not being installed?? When his wife is logged in all the Office stuff works fine?

Any ideas?

Perhaps they are installed to run under the user they were installed under only ?

BV :)

If indeed that is the case, how can that be changed?

Try this, log in as the guy, then go to add/remove, then click the office2k to start the setup from his logon (make sure he is an administrator) to run the repair/reinstall office2k wizard. Choose the option to repeat the last install and see if that will fix the link between the two users. Don't know for sure if this will work, since mine has always allowed multiple users to use it from the first installation.

As you mentioned...the "wife" was set up as admin, and who istalled office...it is the lack of administrative permissions that are messing up your friends Office when he is logged on....Give him administrative permissions under computer management and he will be quickly flashed with some screens installing components....then he sholud be good....if the "wife" doesnt want him to have admin privleges..then you can now set Group policy that will limit him from everything but installing software...

This should fix it
