Office Pro 97 Hanging

I need to see if someone can help me with the following problem. I have a laptop that has Office 97 Pro installed on it. The program was installed on the "C" drive. On ocasion I connect and log into the network. Every thing was working fine until I install Visio Srandard 2002. Now when I launch an Office application such as Powerpoint and open a powerpoint presentation that was created an resides on the local drive, the program hangs.(no errors,just stops responding). If I connect to the network, everything works okay. I tried un-installing Visio, and then Office. I re-installed Office but I am still having the problem of the program hanging unless I'm logged into the network.

Any help would be appreciated.
