Office/Excel 2007 How to Edit Custom Toolbars?

Hi,

I'm the unfortunate user of Office 2007 (I don't have a choice). Since Microsoft brilliantly decided to remove the traditional menu bar, even simple tasks require going on a long easter-egg hunt.

Anyway, I've been asked to work on an application developed in an earlier version of Excel. The workbook has various custom toolbars (shown on the Add-Ins tab) that are used to carry out tasks that were written in VBA.

The problem is I can't figure out how to edit these "Custom Toolbars" or even how to determine what procedure/macro is called by each button. Right-clicking the buttons produces a menu that allows me to minimize the ribbon or edit the quick-access toolbar, which isn't the same as the "Custom Toolbars".

Does anyone know how to edit these things... particularly how to tell which procedure is attached to each button? I'm about ready to scream!!!

TIA

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the sample on , however, I don't have a "New Menu" button on the Add-Ins tab. In fact, I don't have anything on the Add-Ins tab except the custom toolbar that the previous developer created.

Thinking that this may just be an issue with permissions, I opened up a blank spreadsheet to see what options appeared on the Add-Ins tab... only to find the Add-Ins tab missing altogether.

Having earned several degrees in information technology and taken courses in interaction design, I must say that Microsoft has created an exceptionally poor product. The first rule in design is to "not make the user feel stupid," and I feel pretty stupid right now. >:-<

I do appreciate the help though.

that's an understatement. I teach XL2007 and get very frustrated. Believe me, it's more fun looking stupid in front of the students than in your own cubby.

LOL :p Oh well, I guess I'll just carry on with my current method of setting breakpoints sporadically throughout the code and then trying to trigger them via the toolbar buttons. It's crude but still less frustrating than trying to figure out the Office 2007 interface.

I use XL2003 on my work/home laptop, so I can't look at 2007 until I go to the College. I'll look and see if I find anything. But, seems like you have done a fair amount, so I may not find much.

Only here temporarily during job transition....again....but better this time.

I dont suppose anyone figured this out did they? Having the exact same problem myself.

Cheers,
Andy

Although the User Interface has been removed, the CommandBars Collection hasn't and you should be able to work with the custom toolbar in VBA.

Enjoy,
Tony
