I have been upgrading some of the machines in the office from NT 4.0 to 2000 Pro. The problem is with office 97. I transfered all there word and excel documents over to the 2000 pro machines and when I try to open one of those files up I receive "A document with the name "reports.doc" is already open. You cannot open two documents with the same name." It doesn't matter which word or excel document I open the results are the same. Has anyone experienced this before?

Bit of a long shot, but try turning all (or some) of these options off under the Save tab of Tools/Options:
Allow Fast Saves
Allow Background Saves
Save Autorecover info every n minutes

Hope this helps

Good thought but no luck. I looked at microsoft website for a solution but have not found one. Any other ideas?

Close all apps and go to Start, Run and type
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /regserver

"Age is a high price to pay for maturity."

I tried it - it works.
