I wasn't sure if I should be asking this question here or in the XP forum. If I should ask it in the XP forum please let me know and I'll move it there.

I have an XP Pro notebook running Office 2003 and Visio 2003. Can I install the Office 2007 and Visio 2007 betas on the same notebook for testing or should I install them on a system that doesn't have any other versions of Office and Visio running?

Thanks.

You can install the 2007 betas on a machine which is also running 2003. I have done this (with Office Pro, not Visio but I have no reason to think it won't work) and have had no problems so far ... BUT ...

Please remember that 2007 is beta test software and could potentially cause all sorts of problems. Do NOT install it on a machine from which you are not prepared to lose all data and on which you are not prepared to reinstall Windows and all other software if need be. The worst case may not happen (probably won't happen) but there are no guarantees with beta software.

Enjoy,
Tony

The only exception is Outlook. You cannot have any other versions of Outlook if you install 2007, meaning you will not have 2003 (or XP or whatever you had) even if you try do not overwrite any of your Office applications.

I have done this as Tony has and have only had one problem, which was traced to an update for Excel which was released in November 2005 - KB905756 (EXCELff), which is a security update for Excel 2003. This caused some issues between the printing interface and Office 2007 apps (mostly when trying to print). It was reported to the MS beta team.

Once I uninstalled that security update I've not had any other issues. :)

Thanks Tony and Zack.

Tony, thanks for the reminder about it being a beta version. I plan to take a snapshot of my notebook before installing.

Zack, thanks for the reminder about not having 2 Outlooks. I had forgotten about that. Also, thanks for the heads up aobut KB905756.

Cheers.
