Over the bast 2-3 weeks I've had nultiple hang ups when using word 2003 on a windows xp pro sp2 laptop, i have downloaded all patches from mmicrosoft but still see to be having the problem.

Any idea's?

There were some problems with security update 908531 (MS06-015) but a fix was issued on 25 April. If you are fully up-to-date you should not have these problems so it may be something else about which I have no idea. You might want to take a look at this Microsoft web page about the issues to see if it helps.

Enjoy,
Tony

Start Word using the /a switch and test again. Go to Start, Run and type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word will start in Safe Mode. Test it like this for a while. If it is now stable, close Word and find your normal.dot and rename it as normal.bad. Normal.dot is usually found in Documetns and Settings, Username, Applications Data, Microsoft, Templates folder.
