Hi I have office 2003 pro loaded on a few pc's, and in one particular office there are three machines with the same problem.

when you go into excel/word, then "file", "open" (all is ok), but when you click the drop down arrow for the "look in" option, it takes approximately 20 seconds to propagate, it does need to look for network drives but i have not seen this problem anywhere else in the company?

Check the file locations tab in Word under tools, options. Especially where it opens documents and change it to not open to a default network drive would probably solve it. Try changing to the C drive then see if problem is okay, this will prove if its the machine or a network thing. It sounds like you have a problem with this machine not getting a good enough connection to the network though and it sounds like it is looking for a network connection every time hence the delay. I would speak to your network admin person to check the speed issue out.
