Office 2003 and network issue

Hi all,

I have a winxp sp2 computer with Office 2003 installed on our network (win2k server)that is having speed issues with all Office documents. When the user starts an Office program then goes to Save As or Open, it locks up for about 20 seconds. If a subfolder is selected, the 20 second wait happens again.

I have enabled shell data caching, but it made no difference. I also deleted all the network connections, and the local files worked fine. As soon as I add any network drive, the issue comes up again.

It is only in Office on one specific computer that I am having this issue. If I am to browse to a file from Explore, it opens fine. If I select Save As, the wait begins again!!

You know, I've had this same problem with a computer that was networked with only one other machine, and was not connected to the internet. But, I do not think that the issue is to do with the network. I'd be rather curious to find out what causes this problem. The one I see is a desktop PC with a Pentium 4D processor, one gigabyte of RAM, and 2 7200 RPM hard drives. And, in my situation like yours, Office appears to be the only culprit - specifically Microsoft Word.

It's bizarre that's for sure. If I log on as a different user, it works ok. Seems to be for that specific account.

There must be some personalized settings.

Could it be something within that user's XLStart folder, or the PERSONAL.xls file?
