Office 2000 professional will not install / repair.
When Office cd rom starts:
nothing appears on the screen.
()
When Start>execute>F:\install :
screen 'gathering information' comes up shortly and disappears. Then nothing.
computer runs fine.
cdrom drive runs fine with other programs.
Office cdrom in other computer installs ok.

needs light!

Only thing I can suggest is map your CD drive to D (Even if just for the install) I know I had a problem with windows 98 not working with my CD as drive E:

David,
Well, it did not work, so following your friendly advice I went to the pub, lost time, but here I'm again:
the same problem occurs when I try to install MS project.
Coul be full windows 98 problem though.
still HEEEEEELP.

You were in the pub for 8 days? [surprise]

Can you try this: give the CD a driveletter BELOW F:
F: is sometimes handled as the first network driveletter, maybe you hav a mismatched LASTDRIVE setting or so, just give it a try.
Alternatively, if you cannot lower the letter, copy the CD contents to a local disk and run setup from there.

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, excpect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.

You could try copying the cd to a folder on your hard drive and installing from there.

Sorry Marks41, I did not see your last sentence.

Don't worry, happens to all of us

Good and helpfull friends,

1. yes, I sleep at home.

2. CDROM copied to hard disk, same observations.
so I did not try the proposed cdrom drive letter changes any more.

some wise remark: fill in here please .....

you say it will not install / repair, do you have a previous install of Office 2K on this PC? I have found that a corrupt installation is difficult to remove and will prevent a re-install, the best solution is to download the Office 2000 eraser utility;this will completely remove the earlier installation and allow you to start from new

Fitfixer, hi

1. when I try to install MS Project it does the same.Does that give some lead ?
2. when a office installation will be removed, will I loose .dot files too ?

Thanks,
