Sorry to be lengthy but please be patient. I need some assistance.

Following a recent crash I have been forced to re install Win98 at home. After re install I was also forced to reinstall several applications also. Office 2000 was amongst them (successfully) and so whilst about it I thought I would service pack it SR-1 and 2. Following this Outlook would not send email(Internet mail). The message received on connection to my ISP was "Internet mail is not registered properly. Please reinstall and try again Error 08x80040154" ---- I did - Outlook was reinstalled three times. No change.
I then re installed Office 2000 twice - once as a repair and once as a complete over install. No change.

Google searches revealed that there has been an issue with Outlook98 after security patching SR1. I found nothing for OL2000. Since the situation and symptoms where similar I followed the common solution found which was to manually re register the offending dll (Outlmime.dll)using regsvr32.exe. The registry was successful but didn't cure it.

Next thing to try was the next most common suggestion and that was to completely uninstall Office - reboot - and reinstall. Uninstall was uneventful and completed OK. On the re install I get to type in the CD key, accept the licence terms, press the "install" button and then NOTHING! The window disappears without an error message, a warning, a beep, not nout!

Thinking that I did something wrong with the CD key I tried several more time with the same result.

Sorry for the lengthy post but I really need Office and some help here, none of my technical staff have seen this before and can not offer any assistance - hence this post.

Did you go into Control Panel, Mail, and check all of those settings?

Please look at MS article Q242777
"A married man should forget all his mistakes. There is no point in two people remembering the same thing."

Thanks to bearphins and xlhelp for there responses, but I'm passed the Outlook problem now I think - I just can't seem to re install office 2000.

Thanks to xlhelp for pointing me at Q242777, if I get back in and continue to have an OL2000 issue I will try the Inetcomm.dll fix.

Until then I'm still "locked" out of Office 2000! %-)
