I have an Excel 2000 spreadsheet with normal multiplication formula in various cells.

I have checked and re-checked the cell positions, even opened a new spreadsheet to try this.

The problem is no matter what value I change the cell to, the answer never changes.

What options do I or can I check to find if something is set wrong. I have checked that the cells are numeric as well.

Just doing a simple A*B formula will not change when I change a value in A. Something has gone wrong with the spreadsheet.

I do have about 10 sheets in this workbook, but still should not give a problem with a formula not to respond at all.

Anyone have any ideas on what to check?

Thanks

Bill

Check out the Tools->Options->Calculation. Set it to Automatic.

Sharing the best from my side...

Hi, thanks for the advice on this one.

Have already checked the Options and these are set to Automatic already, have used my help file and now opened up file on a stand alone workstation and using Office2003.

I have also added the Ozgrid add-ins and checked all the add-ins that are loaded on the computer.

Still some cells are not working when changing a value.

What are the limits of excel on the number of formulas and cells that excel can handle before no further responses?

Maybe I have reached my limit on this workbook?

Thanks

Bill

Do you have a message on your status bar saying 'circular'?

NO it not circular, but there is now a message to the right of "RESDY" is says "CALCULTE"

That has not been there before, it is as if the worksheet is ignoring everything in formulas.

Where can I investigate to get rid of the "CALCULTE" message?

Thanks

Bill

leave it a few seconds - normally shows up when excel has to recalc the whole formula tree. After a coupla seconds, it should start going up through a percentage scale form 1 to 100%

wait till it gets to 100% and your formulae should all have updated

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

It has been there now for a long time now, over an hour I think.

Seems to be something strange with the file. I have a feeling something to do with one of the add-ins I put on Excel.

I have now taken all the add-ins off excel. Going to reboot this computer/workstation.

Maybe it will clear what ever has a hold of the program.

CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+F9 should trigger a full recalc of the whole workbook. However, if you hadn't said that you had already checked that calc was set to automatic, I would suggest that this is the exact symptoms for a spreadsheet with manual calc set.

Other thing is that if you hit a key, it will make the calc wait - have you just left it alone for say 30 seconds without touching anything ?

Okay, the problem is solved, and not really sure what was causing.

I had everyone log off the server in our office, fortunately a small office here so not too much grumbling.

Reset everyone on excel to Automatic on the Calculation tab on all workstations and now seems to have done it.

No problems with the cells not updating. Not sure how other workstations were affecting others if they were.

But will know next time what to look for.

Thanks for the help.
