I'm trying to figure out how many prowler boards I will need as we begin to migrate to IP. My basic understanding is that one Prowler board can handle 32-64 simultaneous sessions, depending on the compression. We will have a mixed environment, with primarily 6400 series phones, but gradually moving to 4600 series sets. If we're not going to send compressed IP calls over our WAN any time soon, why would I need to compress calls, and more importantly, how can I determine a realistic amount of simultaneous calls per prowler board? We have approximately 140 employees, so I'm imagining that we could easily get by with one for a while, unless from a redundancy perspective we should have two. Would I need only one CLAN card, or would two be a good idea? (I have posed these questions to my account rep, but thought I'd let the experts of this forum offer their advice)

The prowler board supports 64 simultaneous G.711 calls and 32 G.729 calls, but then comes into play the fact of doing transcoding which uses alot of resources. As for your question about no implementing any WAN calls right now, it would be wise for you to setup G711. Avaya's current IP phones are pretty shoddy sounding at g729. Which is very interesting, their IP trunking at g729 sounds great. They are getting ready to release a new version of their phone which supports inline powering. As for your Clan card, you could get buy with a TN799DP (maybe a 799C) card for all of your phones, since all it does is call control.
