Using OE6 I create a new email and use Save As to save it to My Documents for progressive editing

I open the email (.eml file) in My Documents by double clicking on it and make changes. However when I click Save it always saves to Drafts and not back to the original file. I don't want to use Save As again due to the inconvenience of losing the file name as the Subject becomes the new file name.

In OE5 or an Outlook .msg file when I used Save it always saves back to the original file, not Drafts, and when ready I send it.

How can I direct Save to the original file and not Drafts in OE6?

Thanks

Mike

When you call out for help in the darkness, and you hear a voice in return, you're probably just talking to yourself again!

When you open an EML file, it will actually open in OE, and, of course when you save it becomes a draft, which is perfectly logic because that is what it is, a draft message.
If you want to edit the EML as a file, open it in Notepad, but that will be for pure text only.
The drafts folder is there for progressive editing, why not use it then, it's so much simpler. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

I want to be in control of my own email files because once Outlook has them you can only access them via Outlook. I have another app which provides a better "after-sent" interface for searching and managing emails.

As I said, OE5 lets me save directly to the file but OE6 insists on saving to drafts.

Can I set up OE6 so that drafts is not the save folder?

News Flash !
If you want to be in control of email, use an email program, like OE.
If yu want to work with files, use files.
My point is, you are mixing 2 totally different things. An EML file, is an email, not a text file. A MSG file is a text file, that is the difference.
You cannot change the standard behaviour of OE6 in regard of drafts, unless you open the files in Notepad, or save them a TXT instead of EML. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

I don't like to appear ungrateful but you've missed my point. I want what I want, not what Microsoft wants me to have. I want control of my emails for my reasons. My question was not asking the best way to handle my emails, but my way of handling emails.

I am very aware of the points you raised, but please also consider:

When saving my emails as .txt I lose the attachments and the To From information! I want the attachments and To From information left intact.

So my question remains unanswered. I can do it with OE5 and XP why not OE6???

OE6 is different by design, that's just the way it is.
Sorry to dissapoint you, but if you use the MS software, accept it as it is, otherwise, get another mailclient, there is plenty of choice.
I'll compare it with a car, maybe silly, but just to make a point.
If you want to drive it from the right seat, you don't buy a 'regular' one and then try to modify it, you buy one that matches your wishes (UK).
Point: you do have a choice. Use the tools as they are, or get another tool. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too
