I have Outlook Express 6 installed on a Windows XP pro system. It has been working fine, but today I got a message "Outlook Express has encountered a problem and needs to close" I have tried shutting down and re-starting my computer to no avail. Norton cannot find any problems and virus checking is up to date.

Can anybody tell me how to get it running again please?

When exactly does the message occur? After performing a certain action or does it just pop up when you open the application? joegz

It pops up as soon as I try to launch OE, in a box that also wants to send a message to Microsoft.

Looking at the info it wants to send, it says my system is Win NT 5.1 build 2600 - is this right for Win XP??

Also msoe.dll is listed as an offset with a value 0x0003631c

If you need more info just shout!! Many thanks.

Steve

Then I would first see if it is a problem with your DBX files.

Under C:\Documents and settings\your id\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\your identity number\Microsoft\Outlook Express is typically where the DBX files are stored.

(if you are not certain about identity number you should be able to find it under TOOLS - OPTIONS - MAINTENANCE - STORE FOLDERS)

First try renaming the Folders.dbx to Folders.old or something similar and then see if OE will open. The file will be rebuilt when OE is launched. If you get the same message try the same procedure with your other folder files like inbox and outbox one at a time to see if renaming one of them corrects the issue. I would also make sure that none of the folders are marked as Read-Only.

If none of this works let us know to see what else we can suggest. joegz

JOEGZ - Spot on! and a big thank you!

It only took the renaming of the Folders.dbx file to sort it out and get it run ing again.

Well done.

Steve.
