OE Newsreader won't authenticat News Server

When trying to download the list of newsgroups, OE is unable to connect to the news server. All settings have been verified with the ISP. Same is true with another newsreader, XNEWS. Seems like something else is interfering. Anyone have ideas?

Running Win XP Pro, Office XP, Outlook 2003

So if mulitple newsreaders won't work, but you can get on the Internet, one of two things is likely wrong.

1. Despite the fact your ISP tells you all is well, you just aren't authenticating on their news server. Despite the fact that they tell you that its okay, the truth is, most ISPs have very limited support for newsgroups, and blow you off when you call.

2. You have a personal software firewall blocking access.

My guess is its number 1. Tell your ISP you have tried mulitple newsgroup readers, and you simply cannot authenticate. You might be stuck trading e-mails back and forth over several days, but you should get resolution.
