OE Address book backup

I have been trying to find out how to back up the address book in Outlook Express but cannot get a backup copy with any addresses in it.

In the past I have had a crash and had to input all the addresses manually from a print out, but I cannot believe there is not a way to back up the file.

I have tried making a copy of the Store Folder which creates copies of all inbox and sent items but not the address book.

The .WAV files I create when exporting the address book are all empty.

Any help before my next crash would be appreciated.

Outlook Express uses the windows address book. Search your hard drive for *.wab It will probably be username.wab You can copy this file to any backup media it will fit on.

Thanks for the help I searched *.WAB and it did indeed bring up the address book file.

But again when I open the file the address book opens but with no addresses in it.

Excuse the *.WAV error in first message should have checked message properly!

What version of Windows and OE? Try Start, Programs, Accessories, Address Book. Do you get the correct addresses? If so, repeat but this time right click and select Properties. What's the 'target'?

Thanks for your help but through persistent searching I have found the file.

We were looking for the wrong file extension, the actual address book is an exe file located at:

c:\program file\outlook express\wab.exe

if you copy this file to a floppy and then open it, it contains all the addresses and you can just copy it back to the hard drive.

This problem has caused me alot of problems as I have not wanted to do a clean install/format because I would loose the address book.
