Has anyone else had problems with Vista ODBC connections behaving a lot more differently to XP?

I'm using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Setting up an ODBC System DSN to our server just gets ignored. I need it to be a User DSN and I can then see it working in my VB 6 app.

Also I'd like to create a ODBC connection to a MS Access database, and can't see where to create that. Access and the other file based drivers I used to see in XP aren't there. I've installed Office 2007 including MS Access 2007 but no ODBC for any of them.

I am using Vista Ultimate 32bit and I have the ability to create an ODBC to an Access DB. You might not have the 64 bit ODBC driver. I guess the big question is, are you connecting to 32 bit servers or 64 bit? There might be a driver issue going from your 64 bit workstation to a 32 bit server.

I am far from a DB guy but just tossing out a few ideas in case the ones above don't help. Make sure your firewall is turned off on your Vista machine and I'd also disable Windows Defender.

I found this link that might help

Good luck!

Cheers

The answer is always "PEBKAC!

Thanks Rob,

That link pointed to the solution. On Vista 64 bit there are two ODBC administrator programs. I need the one in the Windows\SysWOW64 folder rather than the one the control panel points to in the Windows\System32 folder.

Working fine now.
