i was wondering if someone can explain this error message to me. i get it when trying to run the follow report...
the report i have written gives me a cost / charge analysis of each surgeon within the date range i select... I upgraded the report by adding a group for SERVICE so that all the general surgeons would list together and then all the orthopods, etc...

if i run the report (with the new grouping) for up to 6 months it runs fine, but if i try to run it for a whole year i get the following error message:

ODBC error: [Oracle][ODBC][Ora] ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 256 in tablespace TEMP01

i have not had to read a lot of error messages before, so i am not sure how to break this down and figure out what the mistake is... if someone could give me some helpful adivce / hints i would greatly appreciate it...

Looks like 2 problems:

1st, CR 8.5 should be using the Crystal supplied ODBC driver, not the Oracle one (the error indicates it's the Oracle driver.

2nd, the problem is on the database side, though you may be causing it by how you're extracting data and returning too excess data if this is the case. There's a temporary area for writing to on the database, and your area is running out of room. Contact the dba and let them know.

Under the Database menu in Crystal, there's a "Perform Grouping On Server" option. See if the problem goes away if you change that option. I'm not sure about this one, but it's worth a try.

Hi,
That may have solved the immediate problem, but you should
( or your DBA should) increase the size of the TEMP01 tablespace - having the sorting/grouping done on the server is preferable to having it done after the data is returned.

BTW, we run over 500 reports and they all use the Oracle native driver (we use Oracle database versions from 8.1 thru 9.2)with no problems..I prefer it since it has much lower overhead and fewer administrative hassles ( like being sure every developer uses the same DSN as the ones defined on the server)..
Your experience may vary...

Turk:

Are you using Stored Procedures in these reports?

What version of CR are you using?
