ODBC Error: Operation must use an updateable query

Running Excel 2000 with related Excel ODBC driver.

When I try to updte with my external tool, I get the error message:
Operation must use an updateable query

any ideas?

What tool are you using - msquery, perhaps? If so, the default query is read-only. you need to change the query to allow updates by making it an updateable query. check for a query menu or toolbar button.
