Hello,

Maybe you guys can help. I have someone here working with oracle and will not shut up. It is driving me nuts how he is complaining that he cannot get a simple question answered so I am posting it here. What this person wants to know is "What is the equivalent to ODBC in Windows 2003 server registry for Oracle?" The guy thinks it's OCI but he has not found it anywhere in the registry. He may not be asking the right question but I am posting it here as I listen to him talk. If anyone knows I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi Comptek,
ODBC and OCI are both interfaces to databases.
ODBC was designed for Windows OS and there are drivers for lots of databases.
OCI is designed for Oracle databases, but is more OS-independent than ODBC. This might be the reason your coworker does not find an exact equivalent in the registry.

There are a whole lot more interfaces available and each one is implemented in a different way...

Direct him to look for ODP.NET and he will be quiet for some time. It has all the drivers for everything you want even the ones you don't want.
