I am having intermittant problems with connecting to the OCTEL using the serial port. The COM1 settings are 9600,7,even,1,hardware. Sometimes it connects other times there is no response. I understand that there is TELNET connectivity to this system. Does anyone know how to set this up and how much work is involved. Thx

Sure, it's very easy. The O200/300 will need to be on S.4.x with a Lan card and then system parameter 297 must be set to Y for Telnet.

Hi VNS1000

The Octel (/VMX) 200 and 300 are systems where only one person at a time can be logged on.
These systems can have up to three different connection types: I.e.:
Serial connection through the V24/RS-232 serial port,
Telnet connection through the ELAN card and
modem connection through the build-in modem on the CPU board.
If one of the connections is in use, the other types cannot be used.
You can easily test if the modem is enabled by dialling in to the voice mail group number and after you have heard the welcome greeting, press ###5. A modem tone will then be heard.
Best regards doktor

Hi again

I think also you need to change your settings for COM1 to:
9600,7,even,1, NO hardware.

/doktor

Guy's, You can set your serial port (COM1) up to 38400 baud with the NIKE cpu. The CVL ran at 115000 baud, but sadly never made it our of the lab. 9600 is very slow and only needed when you are booting the system with the terminal connected to display boot records.

Is it possible to connect to the cpu modem with ###5 AND with a terminal on the serial port supporting both physical connections. Not generally known. You can also use the telnet and serial connection at the same time. 1 connection can be in "update" and the other running commands at the @ prompt.
