O2 Boot problem

My O2 does not boot and gives me the following error message:
Unable to execute scsi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(8)/crt_ option = 1: no such device
Unable to load bootfile: no such device
Unable to boot; press any key to continue:

I used the fx utility and everything seems ok. I have done everything (re-installed IRIX 6.5.3, checked partisioning, volume header for sash, etc.) except re-formatted my disk. Can anyone help please.

I have now replaced mu HD with a functional unit from another O2 and get exactly the same error message. I come to the conclusion that my HD is ok and that there must be some other problem.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem, as I've just had the same error. The system crashed, now all I get is the error. Any help would be very handy as I'm new to Irix

No, I haven’t got a solution yet. I think it must be some hardware problem although when I do a system hardware test, I get no errors.

Hi,

I have had a response from a couple of different people and they have both said to type in:

resetenc

in the command window. If the machine has forgotten the correct boot partition this should fix things when you start the system.

Don't know if you've tried this, but it worked for me.

Possible solution:
I had the same problem and since no one really knew what it was I wrecked my O2 trying to fix this with fx and dvhtool. Tough luck! since it was the environment variables that was garbled. Seems that after installing the Irix 6.5.15 and run EzSetup and rebooted it produced the same problem again, ergo sum, finding the pci(0)scsi... did not work.

So, what you do:
Boot up, esc, command monitor and type "printenv".
Change with "setenv" and change with "setenv [variable] [setting]". Example: "setenv OSLoader sash". Look at the env settings below:

Monitor=h
SystemPartition=pci(0)scsi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(8)
OSLoadPartition=pci(0)scsi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(0)
OSLoader=sash
OSLoadFilename=/unix
Sgilogo=n
Volume=0

Should help you get started! Worked for me after three days of repartion, copy ide, sash etc... *sigh*
