O/R Mapping

Do you guys use O/R mapping like hibernate/nhibernate to help or do you build your own DAL.

I made my own DAL but after looking in to nhibernate I started to wonder why I shouldn't use that. On the other hand I tried some other O/R mapping but most create code that takes days to read and understand, and I still like to know what my code does.

So I would just like the expert opinions from you OO programmers out there.

Can't call myself an expert.

I looked at nhibernate but with an object with a lot of properties it did take a while to populate collections.

If I did use it I'd look at lazy loading.
