Hello All,

I just started getting the following error message from my Soltice 6.1 Networker Backup software on one of our servers... Backups were running fine until yesterday I was going to change the DLT Tape to a new Tape... As I do everyday... I went to Label the new tape and I got the following error message and NWADMIN Closed out on me.

"Segmentation Fault NWADMIN (core dumped)"

Any thoughts on this or causes why this is happening... I can open NWADMIN after the fact but I can't label my tape... I guess I could always use the command line process to label a tape etc... but something is defintely going on for this to happen all of a sudden. I looked in the log files but didn't see anything related to this problem...
Any Help would be appreciated...

Thanks

Do it from the command line with added verbosity (-v). NetWorker should tell you more.

Also look at the /nsr/logs/daemon.log file and the system log file /var/adm/messages.

I suspect there is a drive problem...

Hey 605 - thanks for replying.... I don't think there is a Drive problem....

I was able to successfully mount and label a tape via the command line with out anything weird happening or error messages... Used the following command
nsrmm -m -l -f -v /dev/rmt/0hbn tapename...

I'm still looking through my log files... Anymore thoughts?

look at the core dump, it should give you an idea.

Not really, without more sophisticated error info, i am stuck.

well I still haven't been able to figure this problem out yet... I don't see anything out of the ordinary in both my /var/adm/messages file and /nsr/logs/daemon.log or the other log files....

How can I actually view the core dump file... The core file from the nwadmin segmentation fault was located under the root file system... You can't just do a "more" on that file etc... Is there a way to uncode it... I ran "adb core" from the root directory and got the following response:

core file = core--program "nwadmin" on platform SUNW,Sparcstation20 SIGSEGV:Segmentation Fault

Do you think it could have something to do with SWAP space??

Any more thoughts or comments are appreciated!

If this is not a NetWorker problem (as you said, nothing points to that), then i can only think of a system/OS problem. In this case, the /var adm/messages file should tell you more.

I cannot read a core dump but there are situation which will definitively become problematic. For instance if the root filesystem fills up. Might be true for other relevant filesystems as well. Also do not forget to empty your trash can.

Thanks for all of your replys etc... Its great to have a place to post a problem and actually get some help.... I have posted here before and received great technical support... Well I'm really kind of stumped on this problem... Still very much looking into it... Can't seem to find a lot of info on Segmentation Faults in regard to NWADMIN on the Internet.... Hopefully my company's SUN CONTRACT is up to date and will probably be calling them first thing Monday Morning to see what they say about it... I will post what I find out for future references...
